Year of Hope

It’s New Year’s Day
and as the snow drifts to the ground
I hear whispers of hope.
Snowflakes dance about me
joyously touching my face.
I feel them urge my eyes to close
and get lost in their merriment.
My mind drifts to the coming New Year
Will I see snowflakes dance?
Will my loved ones be here to celebrate the season?
The snow whispers one word over and over…hope!
As it sings its song,
Fear is conquered.
Hope brings family together.
Hope motivates men of science to heal an isolated world.
As the snow swirls, I lift my hands to the sky
Hearing the plea, “Surrender to hope”.
My soul wants to believe, must believe.
The song ends in deafening silence.
Slowly, I open my eyes.
Did I imagine their song?
Yet a weight has been lifted.
The delicious taste of hope cleansing my soul.

Sue Cook lives in Freeport, Illinois with her husband Randy and two dogs. Her passions include assistance dogs, rescue dogs, music, acting, theater, poetry, and Doctor Who. Sue is an advocate for the use of Service Dogs to assist their disabled handlers to maintain their independence. Quigley’s Quest, her first children’s book, addresses how a dog becomes a Service Dog.
Cyndi (she/her) is the mama of two grown children and Oma to eight grandchildren, all of whom she adores. She’s a biker chick with a lady’s heart and thirty-nine tattoos that tell some of her life story. Not just a cancer survivor, she’s a life thriver. She also loves painting, and finds the process similar to solving math equations. She has been a writer/poet since the age of nine, her first poem being about God’s Hands. She wrote for Christian Biker Magazine for five years.
