Apothecary Tea review, loose leaf tea on cranberry background with flowers on sides

                      Image from Apothecary Teas

I’d seen Apothecary Teas before. I even have a few of their teas around, birthday gifts from friends for my 40th birthday. But when I saw them at a fair in October, I knew I wanted to check out their new offerings. The quality has been excellent on their flavored and blended teas, so, of course, I had to stop by. I went to the black teas and found it on first sniff: Apothecary Teas Cherry Blossom Tea.

I had never had the tea before, but I’ve been looking for a good cherry black tea for years. I pulled the cork from the scent jar on the table and knew I’d found what I’ve been looking for all this time. And now you can find it, too, my fellow cherry lovers!

                      Flavor Profile

The first note to hit from the tea is, in fact, cherry. Real, honest-to-goodness cherry. No artificial flavors, not herbs first, then cherries, not the alluded to cherry blossom (an edible flower known as Sakura in Japan). So, often when I find “cherry” teas, they are just that: flowers and fake flavoring. In Apothecary Teas’ case, however, it’s real, sweet cherries!

This black tea combines real dried cherries, plus cherry flavoring (you generally have to add some flavoring like extracts to help bring out flavors in tea blends), almond slivers, almond extract, and rose petals. The result is one of the best fruit teas I’ve ever had – and I mean ever.

Overall Impressions and Suggestions for Service

Some teas offer a “false” sense of flavor by the aroma. You sniff, you inhale, and you believe what you smell. Then, taking that first tenth, or hundredth sip, you find a difference between aroma and flavor.

In the case of Apothecary Teas Cherry Blossom Tea, though, the aroma is true to the flavor. So, if you like the scent of the loose-leaf tea or the aroma of the steep, you won’t be disappointed.

I highly recommend deeply inhaling while you sip the tea to enhance the cherry explosion even more. But if you’re in for a more subtle flavor just sip and daydream of picking cherries in Washington or nibbling fruit along a river where your eyes feast as much as your taste buds.

For a pie-like experience, add a bit of dairy or oat milk (less than a quarter cup). For a richer flavor, add in about a quarter cup sweetened vanilla almond milk and a pinch of pure, raw cane or coconut sugar.

Personally, I love the tea straight up, with no sugar and no milk added. It’s sweet and flavorful enough to stand all on its own. Complement the tea for full service with something like black currant scones, strawberry pie, or, of course, cherry tartlets or cherry preserves on a fresh English muffin.

                      Rating: 5 out of 5

Apothecary Teas Cherry Blossom Tea earns a ranking among my ultimate all-time favorite teas. The real fruit, delicate yet strong flavor, and sweet aroma to match the flavor all score big on my cards. I highly recommend this tea for all cherry lovers.
